چکیده

We study the long-time, large scale transport in a three-parameter family of isotropic, incompressible velocity fields with power-law spectra. Scaling law for transport is characterized by the scaling exponent q and the Hurst exponent H , as functions of the parameters. The parameter space is divided into regimes of scaling laws of different functional forms of the scaling exponent and the Hurst exponent. We present the full three-dimensional phase diagram. The limiting process is one of three kinds: Brownian motion (H = 1/2), persistent fractional Brownian motions (1/2 < H < 1) and regular (or smooth) motion (H = 1). We discover that a critical wave number divides the infrared cutoffs into three categories, critical, subcritical and supercritical; they give rise to different scaling laws and phase diagrams. We introduce the notions of sampling drift and eddy diffusivity, and formulate variational principles to estimate the eddy diffusivity. We show that fractional Brownian motions result from a dominant sampling drift. 1991 MSC code. Primary 76M35, 76R50; Secondary 76F05, 60G60.

A New Model for Prediction of Heat Eddy Diffusivity in Pipe Expansion Turbulent Flows

A new model to calculate heat eddy diffusivity in separating and reattaching flows based on modification of constant Prt is proposed. This modification is made using an empirical correlation between maximum Nusselt number and entrance Reynolds number. The model includes both the simplicity of Prt=0.9 assumption and the accuracy of two-equation heat-transfer models. Furthermore, an appropriate l...

Reply to comments on “Simulating ozone dry deposition at a boreal forest with a multi-layer canopy deposition model”

1. Comments: (1) Authors state that they have implemented a multi-layer dry deposition model into SOSAA, which is a 1D chemical transport model. SOSAA is described in Section 2.3.1, which lists different modules and references but does not explain the model types or physical principles. The key elements of SOSAA relevant to the present study, especially turbulent mixing and the derivation of ed...

Gas Absorption with Chemical Reaction in Turbulent Flow

In order to increase the rate of gas absorption, chemical reaction in the liquid phase is considered. The purpose of this paper was to simulate gas absorption process by a liquid film over a spherical packing incorporating eddy viscosity and diffusivity. Second order chemical reaction for two different cases (fast and slow) were considered. The system partial differential equations obtained...

Transonic Turbulent Flow Simulation using Pressure-Based Method and Normalized Variable Diagram

A pressure-based implicit procedure to solve the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations on a nonorthogonal mesh with collocated finite volume formulation is described. The boundedness criteria for this procedure are determined from Normalized Variable diagram (NVD) scheme. The procedure incorporates the ε−k eddy-viscosity turbulence model. The algorithm is tested for inviscid and turbulent transonic ...

Non-linear magnetic diffusivity in mean-field electrodynamics

AB S TRACT We consider non-linear transport and drift processes caused by an inhomogeneous magnetic field in a turbulent fluid. The coefficients of magnetic diffusivity and drift velocity are calculated by making use of the second-order correlation approximation. Transport processes in the presence of a sufficiently strong magnetic field become anisotropic with larger diffusion rate and turbule...
